Finding that missing piece for a vinyl collection, or any cherished item, can be frustrating. Flea markets offer charm and discovery, but not always the exact item we’re searching for. Online marketplaces provide access but often feel impersonal, overpriced, and transactional, overlooking the value of the objects we already own.

A new way to swap: personal, sustainable, story-driven

A new way to swap: personal, sustainable, story-driven

ReVibe recreates the experience of browsing a real flea market, where users can either search for something specific or simply explore. What matters is the inspiration sparked by the story behind each item, making every choice more personal and meaningful.

By removing money from the equation, ReVibe shifts the focus to the emotional and practical value of objects rather than their price. This fosters a more sustainable, mindful approach to ownership, where every item is chosen carefully, valued for its uniqueness, and given a new life.

To begin, I conducted user interviews to explore whether swapping could be a compelling alternative to purchasing. These conversations, combined with survey data, provided valuable insights into how people perceive digital versus in-person experiences when it comes to vintage and second-hand items.

"I love the charm of old music scores, but finding the ones I really care about is nearly impossible. It’s not just the rarity of the pieces, it’s also hard to connect with a real and trusted community of people who share this same passion."

Claudio, 33 y/o, engineer and musician

"I love going to flea markets because you can touch the objects and really connect with what you’re bringing home. But I don’t always have the time for that, and living in a small apartment means I can’t just keep adding pieces without letting some go."

Violet, 27 y/o, math teacher and ceramic collector

"Collecting often requires significant time, effort, and financial resources to find specific pieces, especially when they are rare or out of circulation. It can become a continuous and sometimes frustrating process, with no certainty of success."

Giulia, 30 y/o, books lover

"At some point, space becomes a real problem. I don’t want to stop collecting, I just want to swap some of the things I already have so I can make room for something new without losing the connection to what I love."

Ideation: from data to key features

Building on the key insights from research, I moved into the design stage by identifying essential features the app needed to feel complete, intuitive, and trustworthy. Starting from “How Might We” questions, I shaped the concept into mid-fidelity wireframes and mapped the customer journey with a focus on the core needs: helping users easily find the right match, making the swapping process simple, and fostering trust between collectors.

For ReVibe, mid-fi wireframes were essential to shape a swapping experience that felt both effortless and trustworthy. By testing early, I could refine the way users discover, match, and exchange items, bringing the project’s sustainability and community values to life from the very first flows.

Iteration: shaping an emotionally-driven experience

Iteration: shaping an emotionally-driven experience

Iteration: shaping an emotionally-driven experience

To develop the high-fidelity wireframes, I focused on translating the emotional joy and curiosity of real-life swapping into a digital experience. Research showed that users value both the excitement of discovery and the importance of trust when exchanging personal items. To reflect this, I designed a tactile, image-driven interface where visuals take center stage, helping users assess item quality and feel connected to the story behind each piece.

I avoided sterile, overly polished surfaces in favor of textures and warmth, reinforcing a sense of authenticity. The goal was to create an intuitive product that’s efficient and easy to navigate, but also playful and emotionally engaging, just like the best real-world swapping experiences.

To develop the high-fidelity wireframes, I focused on translating the emotional joy and curiosity of real-life swapping into a digital experience. Expressive by design: usability and emotional engagement

ReVibe is currently in its internal user testing phase, with early feedback helping to validate key assumptions and refine the experience for future development. As a self-driven initiative, the project reflects my ability to independently lead the full design process - from research to high-fidelity execution - while staying focused on delivering real user and business value. Every design decision was made to create an intuitive, engaging, and emotionally resonant experience that builds trust and connection while driving purposeful interactions.
